German B2 — Communicate with Confidence and Precision

B2 takes you from functional communication to confident, more nuanced German. At this level, the focus shifts from simply getting your message across to expressing ideas clearly, understanding more complex language and participating in discussions on a wider range of topics.

You’ll work with authentic and increasingly complex German through conversations, articles, presentations, discussions and written tasks. You’ll develop a broader vocabulary, improve grammatical accuracy and learn to structure and defend your ideas in both everyday and professional contexts.

By the end of B2, you should be able to:

• Communicate comfortably with German speakers without constant strain for either person
• Follow the main ideas of complex conversations, discussions and standard spoken German
• Understand longer and more demanding texts, including texts related to professional and academic contexts
• Present and explain ideas clearly and take part in discussions
• Give opinions, justify arguments and respond to different viewpoints
• Write clear, detailed and well-structured texts on a range of subjects
• Adapt your language more effectively to different social, academic and professional situations

End goal: Develop a confident, independent command of German that allows you to participate effectively in conversations, discussions and professional or academic situations—not just survive them.
